Title: Taking Healthcare Backwards




I believe these words that are being used to describe the cartoon are there to signify a blunt attitude, as if to say 'Hello, this issue is here!'

The elephants are the republicans and they take the role as the doctor and assistant in this cartoon and the person getting ready to be operated on represents the public.

I think by drawing this is trying to talk about how the republicans are attempting to go backwards in healthcare i.e. getting rid of Obamacare and medicare when the laws themselves have been made in order to go a step forward health-wise in America.

The public as the surprised patient, labelled 'healthcare law' is going to be operated on by the elephant republican doctor and is told to count back from '2012', the year that represents the current date.

The cartoon relates to a current event as in the republicans being against free healthcare and believing that obamacare is the wrong way to go in the government. In class, we talk about ideology and conservative republicans are more for 'self serving' benefits in which healthcare does not fit into their government.

The irony in the healthcare cartoon is that they want to move forward and make America a better place, but taking away healthcare that is there to do that just takes the U.S. a step backwards which really doesn't make any sense at all if you think about it. What would be the point?
